Following the war, revolution, and civil war, only a few indicators are available. The 1927 data registered a height of 167.3 cm, which was 2.4 cm taller than the 1913 indicators. This continued growth in terminal heights over a period that included eight years of disruption, 1914-22, and just five years of recovery, 1923-27, is quite remarkable.
The growth can partly be explained in terms of the increase in the age of recruits, since the difference in height between 19-year-olds and 21-year-olds is likely to have accounted for the growth of 10 to 15 mm. Height restrictions were more severe in 1913 than in 1927, so changes in these restrictions should have reduced rather than increased average heights. Consequently, we still have to explain an apparent growth of be- tween 9 to 14 mm for the fourteen years from 1913 to 1927. This appears to have been roughly the same rate of growth as occurred in the 1890s and the first decade of the twentieth century. But we would need to improve our data before placing too great an emphasis on this result.
Ну а я не осторожный иностранный ученый, так что рискну предположить, что призывники 1906-го года рождения вступили в подростковый возраст во время черного передела на селе. Помещиков уже того-с, а кулаки еще не завелись, земли было по едокам.
